DAVIS Theodore
Theodore M. Davis est né à New York en 1837. Avocat de métier, il est plus connu pour ses fouilles dans la Vallée des Rois entre 1889 et 1912. Certains membres de son équipe sont devenus célèbres : Edward Ayrton, James R. Quibell, Arthur Weigall, Harry Burton et bien sûr Howard Carter. Ses plus grandes découvertes sont la tombe de Youya et Touya, les parents de la reine Tiyi, et celle d’Horemheb. Il mit également à jour la tombe 54 qui contenait quelques objets ayant servi à l’inhumation de Toutânkhamon. Ces deux dernières découvertes sont publiées dans l’ouvrage « The Tombs of Harmhabi and Touatânkhamanou » Ce livre se termine par le fameux commentaire de Davis : « J’ai bien peur qu’il n’y ait plus rien à trouver dans la Vallée des Rois ». En 1922, la découverte de la KV 62, celle de Toutânkhamon, par Howard Carter, allait le démentir.
